Ukrainian President Yushchenko is calling on journalists to be more active in protecting freedom of speech in the country. Speaking at a meeting of regional media directors in Kyiv on 7 October, Yushchenko - who is running for re-election in January - urged the media leaders not to think about their pay-checks but rather about Ukraine's future.
